I've always been ambivalent about Valentine's Day, mostly because nothing ever happened. It's only recently that I've been in a serious relationship that has lasted through Valentine's Day, so maybe that has something to do with it. In any event, this last Valentine's, I was actually in a relationship, so I wondered what would happen. Societal attitudes, I guess. I got her some candy, and she got me some flowers. But not just any flowers. They were these eye-popping spring flowers with full fragrance and very pretty. Of course, they were your flowers, which is why I'm writing to you. My great-grandmother’s funeral was much more sober than any other funeral I’ve been to (to many of them), and I couldn’t figure out why. Finally, it dawned on me, the flowers were wholly inappropriate for the setting. They were the whole color, the wrong style, and too ostentatious for the scene. I found out that the person in our family who normally orders the flowers (from you) had asked someone else to do it this time, and he ordered from someone else.
