Although I have to say that my gift of flowers and balloons to the mistress of the house didn’t get me out of kitchen duty, it did get me some extra time with the men in the family as they were impressed I was able to spend so much on a deceptively gorgeous gift. My great-grandmother’s funeral was much more sober than any other funeral I’ve been to (to many of them), and I couldn’t figure out why. Finally, it dawned on me, the flowers were wholly inappropriate for the setting. They were the whole color, the wrong style, and too ostentatious for the scene. I found out that the person in our family who normally orders the flowers (from you) had asked someone else to do it this time, and he ordered from someone else.
