I decided to be audacious this year and send my boyfriend, who is in Peru with his family for the moment, a series of flower bouquets. One a day for a week until his birthday. The reason it was so audacious is that his family is in the florist business and use FTD every day. I’m not sure if they were sending the flowers to themselves down there, but the gesture has warmed them to me (finally), and I’ll be seeing Gabriel very soon. Your flowers were just the pick me up that my sister-in-law needed. She's undergoing chemotherapy for cancer and there is a lot of time spent just trying to get through. People help, of course, but I think flowers help in a different way. The picture on your website did not do the flower arrangement justice, and it looked like I spent more on my step-mother's Mother's Day present than on my mother's present. As a society, we tend to send flowers out of feelings of guilt for not being in a place we would normally be. Before the advent of automobiles and airplanes, we wouldn't stray too far from home (except in a few cases), and so we didn't have a need for sending gifts through the mail, or the Internet, or using FTD, or some other wire service. But we are products of our times, and because even nuclear families are so far flung, and because husbands and wives often live and work on different continents from one another, we have this need to send gifts to one anther in lieu of being there. What we're acknowledging is that we usually do what we can to make compromises between how we would like to live and how we would like to be close to one another. It's apparently socially acceptable to be apart like this as long as we can send each other things that remind us of this emotional connection even though there's no physical connection. My mother visited for a short time last spring, and she noticed something completely new, for her anyway. She noticed that there was this celebration called Mother's Day that everyone takes so seriously. Now she demands that she be treated like an American mother and have flowers and cards and calls and gifts sent to her. All this so she can say that her daughters in America recognize that she is an American mother by proxy or something. She's funny about things like that, but I guess it's always a good thing to make your mother happy with something so simple.(Adrienne I. , Yerevan , Armenia)

What a nice surprise to find a flower shop that specializes in plants. The wide variety of plants that you have available to send is unusual and interesting.
