I just sent some Valentine's Day roses to someone I've been admiring from afar for a while now. As I am writing this they are on route to him, and I don't know how he's going to react. I don't know if it's such a good idea that you have same day delivery, because it doesn't give me a chance to think everything through before things start to happen. I'm getting ahead of myself, I know, but I can't help it. I have all of this nervous energy, wondering what the reaction will be. I'd like to think that I was making my daughter happy when I sent flowers to her on her first day at college, but I really suspected that she was embarrassed by her mother in front of her dorm-mates. It was a little of both, I guess. She called to say that she really enjoyed them, but she asked if it was OK that she told everyone they were from her boyfriend. *sigh* There's only so much a mother can do. My mother visited for a short time last spring, and she noticed something completely new, for her anyway. She noticed that there was this celebration called Mother's Day that everyone takes so seriously. Now she demands that she be treated like an American mother and have flowers and cards and calls and gifts sent to her. All this so she can say that her daughters in America recognize that she is an American mother by proxy or something. She's funny about things like that, but I guess it's always a good thing to make your mother happy with something so simple.(Adrienne I., Yerevan )
