The way my family celebrates Christmas, you would think it was Festivus. My dad always tries to challenge someone to wrestle and we have a tinsel lined pole in the back yard that I used to practice tetherball on. I think you've tapped into something here, about how people react to flowers and in what context they receive them probably affects how they are received.
