There's one thing I've found about sending flowers. It has to be the right ones at the right time. There is a general understanding about what kinds of flowers mean what, so when I send red roses, I want it to mean love, and when I send white roses, I want it to mean friendship. I think you've tapped into something here, about how people react to flowers and in what context they receive them probably affects how they are received.
