I've always been ambivalent about Valentine's Day, mostly because nothing ever happened. It's only recently that I've been in a serious relationship that has lasted through Valentine's Day, so maybe that has something to do with it. In any event, this last Valentine's, I was actually in a relationship, so I wondered what would happen. Societal attitudes, I guess. I got her some candy, and she got me some flowers. But not just any flowers. They were these eye-popping spring flowers with full fragrance and very pretty. Of course, they were your flowers, which is why I'm writing to you. I know it was my girlfriend that sent them to me, but I'm glad they lived up to everything I've ever heard about Valentine's, and then some.(Fiona F., Bakersfield CA )

My new husband and I would like to thank you for the wonderful job you did on my centerpiece and bouquet, as well as my Aunt Lucy’s funeral the following week. Having to deal with you twice for very different purposes was made much easier by the professionalism of your florist shop personnel. You have our heartfelt thanks.(Ashleigh Wicks, Mesa AZ )

I'm very gratified that one of the first thing my godson saw is the basket of flowers that I sent to the hospital. His mother is one of my best friends in the world and I couldn't be happier. I also couldn't be there, so I have to thank you for being my stand-in on one of the most important days in both of their lives. Oh, and the husband, too, I guess.(Mary I., Avondale AZ )

I think you had my sister in mind when you designed the chocolate basket. Both of us absolutely love chocolate, and we had a good bit of fun poking through there and sharing the stuff (she was gracious enough to share).(Meg P. , El Centro CA )

Every April, I dread having to pick a gift for my mother on Mother's Day. She's so impossible to gift. She hates to go out to restaurants and she doesn't like jewelry (that she never nears). Last year that all changed when I used your website to get her Mother's Day flowers. It was like I had solved a Chinese puzzle. She opened up and actually gave me a warm smile. It was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. This year, my strategy will be the same. Order from you and watch her melt.(Amber T., Lawton OK )

I don't have a lot of time for my husband during the week due to the nature of my job, so imagine my surprise to come home last Saturday and find my bed covered in petals from flowers he had bought personally from your floral shop! Thanks for a great weekend!(Pat Brittain, Bakersfield CA )

Wide Ruins Arizona Delivery

As a society, we tend to send flowers out of feelings of guilt for not being in a place we would normally be. Before the advent of automobiles and airplanes, we wouldn't stray too far from home (except in a few cases), and so we didn't have a need for sending gifts through the mail, or the Internet, or using FTD, or some other wire service. But we are products of our times, and because even nuclear families are so far flung, and because husbands and wives often live and work on different continents from one another, we have this need to send gifts to one anther in lieu of being there. What we're acknowledging is that we usually do what we can to make compromises between how we would like to live and how we would like to be close to one another. It's apparently socially acceptable to be apart like this as long as we can send each other things that remind us of this emotional connection even though there's no physical connection. ROCK ON, BROTHER!!!(Rey V., Nagoya )

I received one of your gift baskets from my sister in Paris, Texas, last weekend. I was expecting flowers when the courier pulled up outside, so imaging my surprise to receive a "Junk Food Bucket"! Perfect for a lazy birthday!(John Van Der Velde, San Antonio TX )

I send to my wife’s office every week one of your gift baskets. Your personnel are far more knowledgeable than me on the subject of flowers and always pick the right choice. Thank you from both of us!(Eric Price, Philadelphia PA )

You have to tell me your secret. How come my delivery of flowers arrived right on time when others didn't arrive at all? I assume we all used FTD affiliated places, but only I used you. There was a snowstorm and not even the phones were working. I didn't even know they had arrived until a couple of days later when my friend called around to let everyone know she was OK. I had to write and tell you that.(Eliza N. , Lexington KY )
