Now she demands that she be treated like an American mother and have flowers and cards and calls and gifts sent to her. All this so she can say that her daughters in America recognize that she is an American mother by proxy or something. I wish someone had told me about you earlier. I don’t like talking about this, but the flowers at my grandmother’s funeral last year were unnecessarily gaudy. She didn’t like a big show, and I always thought she would have disapproved of them. Unfortunately, my mother died this year. My father died after a long bout with cancer. I wasn’t in the right frame of mind to make any sort of arrangements, so my husband did most of them.
