My fiancee and his friends, for some odd reason, decided to take a cross-country trip to California and back. Just to remind him why he's coming back, I decided to send flowers to him at each of their stops along the way. I sent a total of eight bouquets of yellow flowers, four over and four back. I know it completely embarrassed him in front of his friends, but I figured if he was able to withstand them for that amount of time in that situation, he was the right guy. He was the right guy. My mother visited for a short time last spring, and she noticed something completely new, for her anyway. She noticed that there was this celebration called Mother's Day that everyone takes so seriously. Now she demands that she be treated like an American mother and have flowers and cards and calls and gifts sent to her. All this so she can say that her daughters in America recognize that she is an American mother by proxy or something. The funeral for my uncle Saul was done during a week after the burial. I didn’t know this at the time, when I ordered the flowers. I found out too late, and I tried to think of every excuse I could to get those flower arrangements out of there at some point because I knew they would be, shall we say, not quite so fresh. But much to my amazement, they lasted the entire week. Even after the end of the week, my aunt took one of the white roses and put it in a vase before they removed the funeral arrangements.
