I never would have guessed that one small gift of a houseplant would make such a difference in our relationship. I sent one of those little ferns to my wife, and she appreciated the gesture so much that she agreed to move back in. I visited my father in the hospital this morning and was stunned to see that my flowers had arrived before I had. I know I had asked them to be delivered in the early morning, but really! He was already enjoying them, saying they reminded him of my mother and when I was a baby. We both had a good cry.
